UAV’s Detection System By Airbus

UAV’s Detection System By Airbus:

Airbus Defence and Space has recently developed a unique and creative counter-UAV system that is capable of detecting illicit intrusions of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) over critical areas at long ranges. It will be very much useful as it is difficult to control and detect the drones these days.

The new counter-UAV system will also be able to provide electronic countermeasures, reducing the risk of collateral damage.

Airbus Defence and Space Electronics business line head Thomas Müller said: “All over the world, incidents with universally available small drones have revealed a security gap with regards to critical installations such as military barracks, airports or nuclear plants.

“As a specialist in defence electronics, we have all the technologies in our portfolio and the integration knowledge which are needed to set up a quick-response protection system with extremely low false alarm rates.”

Airbus’ new system demonstrates enhanced performance after combining sensor data from different sources with the latest data fusion, signal analysis and jamming technologies.

Using operational radars, infrared cameras and direction finders, the solution will be able to identify the drone and assess its threat potential at ranges between 5km and 10km.

The system’s jammer can interrupt the link between drone and pilot and / or its navigation with the support of threat library and real-time analysis of control signals.

Airbus’ smart responsive jamming technology will allow the jamming signals to block only the relevant frequencies that are used to operate the drone while other frequencies will remain operational.

The jamming technology has a number of receiving and transmitting capabilities, as well as remote control classification and GPS spoofing, offering effective and specific jamming and a controlled takeover of the UAV.

According to Airbus, an operational system is expected to be available from mid-2016.

Recently, the company secured a contract from the UK Ministry of Defence to equip one of the UK’s A400M military aircraft with cryptographic key management technology.

The cryptographic key management solution is aimed at providing the aircraft with the highest protection for encrypted data.
